FLAMIN' HARRY SONGS

Each month we will feature another Flamin' Harry Song. Harry will discuss his song construction and writting process as well as his motivation and lyrical content. If you have any requests email them.(blueta2@enter.net)

"RUDE SHOES"

The inspiration for "Rude Shoes" was two fold. First, I always loved wild footwear, especially snake skin boots. In fact I don't remember how many pairs of boots I have. My favorites include Anaconda and Black and White Ring Lizard. Well anyway the second part was Dr. Bop, better know as Cotton Kent. Cotton has played keyboard for many people such as the O'Jays and Robert Palmer to name a few. He is an old friend of mine and on occasion has played keybord in the Flamin' Harry Band. Years ago we were performing on the same bill and he came in with these leopard skin shoes. I said man where did you get those cool kicks. Doc told me a long story about his finding them in New York. I was in awh! Later after the show he said you know Harry these shoes shouldn't be hidden under a piano. They should be out front on the feet of a front man like yourself. Here, take them. I didn't know what to say. I said thanks for the wild shoes. The Doc said ,"they are more than wild they are RUDE. " "Yes, they are Rude Shoes!" I said your right Doc and I'm gonna write a song about them. Hence, Rude Shoes. Thanks, Doc. (Go to this months guitar lesson to learn how to play "Rude Shoes".) Hear Rude Shoes now! Rude Shoes

FLAMIN' HARRY TRIVIA and FAQ!!

How did you get your name?

I got the nick name "Flamin' Harry" because I was an airbrush artist and I loved to paint fifty's style flames on motorcycles.

How many recordings do you have out?

That's easy. Just look under Discography!

How long have you been playing the guitar?

A long time! forty two years to be exact!

Do you play any other instruments?

Yes. I play guitar, Bass, Harmonica, Sax, Flute and Piano.

Where is your favorite place to play?

I don't have a favorite. They are all my favorites, because I'm lucky enough to be able to pick and choose where and when I want to gig. It really helps to have one of those nights when everyone is totally into the music! If I had to pick one it would be back in Sturgis, South Dakota playing for about 500,000 people. Just as we started to play the sky got dark and heat lightining struck and a sand storm hit. It ended when we stopped playing. One of the other bands said "Heavy, man!" "That was scary!" "You really took the stage by storm!"

What is your favorite guitar?

Why Alberta, my friend. She has been with me a long time. She is a 1960 Les Paul Sunburst Tigerstripe Guitar. She has white original" patent appled for" pickups and an original Bigsby Tailpiece. I've had her for almost thirty years. I have many backup guitars but none play like Aberta.

How did your guitar "Alberta "get her name?

She was named after the late great Albert King. I always loved his phasing and attack. I got to meet him but I never got to perform with him. I think Albert is my all time favorite guitar player.

What are your hobbies?

Well, I have a lot of interests. Of course I enjoy music. I also enjoy art. I have run a Dermagraphic Art Studio (Tattooing) for the past twelve years. I also play golf, I ski and snowboard, and love my Harley Davidsons. I have always enjoyed the outdoors. Especially Hunting and Fishing. I build Muzzleloader flintlock Pennslyvania rifles. I also make and scrimshaw Powder Horns. I shoot a longbow all year round and shoot in indoor Archery leagues. Archery requires coordination and physical and mental skill. Many people are against Hunting and I think it is because of their ignorance of the sport. I pride myself in executing a humane harvest of the animal and enjoy eating the meat. If you want to talk about cruelty just visit a meat packaging plant some time.

What is your favorite computer?

Why, the Apple Macintosh G-4, of course! This Big Blue Rules! I wouldn't have it any other way. Awesome speed and if I need to run any of those Windows propgrams I can. And faster than on a Pentium I might add. Years ago I took a computer on trade for a guitar. I've been hooked ever since. Our next CD will be recorded on a Mac. Hey, if it's good enough for ZZ Top, it's good enough for me!

What is your favorite muzzleloader?

My favorite muzzleloaders are my Allen Martin custom Lehighs. Allen makes the finest Lehigh Rifle in the world. Beautiful lines and very accurate. Give me a nice day and lots of groundhogs and I'm in heaven!

What is your favorite longbow?

My favorite is a Ron Le Clair Super Shrew. Fits like a glove and shoots like a dream. I own 8 different Super Shrews and have another on order. Life is too short to own only one Super Shrew!
